Vacation...and the fall out

Obviously haven't blogged in a while. I took a basically boss-mandated week off (I never take time off) and didn't do squat. It was wonderful and somewhat awful at the same time. I loved having the days to myself and such but awful in that I now know the joy of not working. My "preview of retirement" has made me long for less work. Good to know it's only 30 years off.
Also, going on vacation means you have to go back to work and you've now been out of the loop for a full week. I have a pretty stellar memory so this just throws me off. I pretty much know what's on my shelf, what we've faxed on, what we're waiting for PAs on, what we have on special order, etc. They also added a new section of compression stockings so I had to look at that to add to the index. :) The other part of the fall-out is getting back to the whole people thing....the "I need it and I need it now" mentality that is so pervasive in our culture has to be one of the most draining things in the universe. We had a gentleman call TODAY at probably around 9 or 10 AM for a silly PPI that his Rx had expired, we notified him we would fax the dr but they were pretty busy being that it's Monday....but oh no, this gentleman thought that it would be slow at the dr's office today so we should get that new Rx right away! I think he called back 4 or 5 times before we actually filled the rx (at about 2:30 PM...a VERY respectable turn-around time). I also had the joy of a patient who basically didn't have a clue about his discharge after open heart surgery. He also doesn't have insurance...so his Aggrenox Rx was insane. I also got to pick out Depends for a lady over the phone. One of my favorite things to do (almost as much fun as compression stockings over the phone)...although my technician got the wonder of looking for sandwich bags for another customer (whom I love....she's one of my favorites...but sandwich bags??? Seriously??? I think it's just because we deliver for free to her) I also got the sheer awfulness of a lunch rush and a brainless coworker who drives me nuts. Yay for first days back!!!!
DH and I have completely opposite schedules this week. Basically, I'm days, he's nights. :( Oh well...both of us have been exceedingly crabby lately...which I think fuels one another. Went fishing this weekend a couple times. Didn't have much luck but I got a LOT of sun. :) May go again on Thursday. DH is golfing at the CC Thursday AM but we don't have anything else going on. Still need to catch my first fish. :)

Storm!

Big storm in my little home town over the weekend. My parents lost a bunch of trees. Luckily, none fell on the house. Grandma Iny lost some windows and had a ton of water come in her home due to that but everyone is okay...which is what is important. DH is going there tomorrow to help with some clean up.
Work was adequate today....had one of my first resident bombs. July is when new residents start and is basically the worst time to be in the hospital. Got discharge orders today that had the following: Alprazolam 0.25 mg three times daily (yes, written out not TID)PRN and at bedtime but no quantity. So, I've gotta call on it. Talk with the nurse and apparently Dr. Noob didn't actually want us to dispense any of that because she has it at home. Fine and dandy...but don't write it on the discharge orders then! I told the nurse to tell the resident that. :)
Pedicure tonight...DH is working late so I have the evening to myself. Looking forward to my next week off. :)

Boo hiss....

Shopping sucked. :( I couldn't find anything that perked my interest...and I tried! I really did. I also think I have a slight issue with spending money. Was in a couple of the boutique stores in the mall and I just couldn't justify trying on/spending the amount of money they had their clothes priced at. Yeah, it was a cute top....but over 40 for a t-shirt??? Eegads. I also know what I make in a year and what my DH makes....but still I just can't pull the trigger when it comes to stuff like that. I also was incredibly crabby that the new Sephora didn't have my Diorshow mascara. I was really looking forward to a new tube of Diorshow Electric Blue waterproof mascara. And now I sound like a total snot. They didn't even have BadgalBlue (my back-up favorite). I was intrigued by the BareMinerals stuff but after the lack of mascara, my heart just wasn't in it.
I did however get to eat some of my absolute favorite foods this evening. :) Dinner at Rising Bread Company and Tutti Fruitti yogurt. And the Twins won...so it wasn't a total loss of a day. I also got to lay outside today for a while (until the heat got to me) and finished a really good book. So even though my shopping sucked....the day was pretty good overall. :)
Just an addendum: the entire idea of the "Surprise Homecoming" show on TLC makes me want to cry....I had to fight tears when we were in the Atlanta airport and there were soldiers coming home to cheers...no way I could watch an entire show based on it without going through a box of Kleenex each show.

Day off!

I'm very excited that today is my day off for several reasons. I am in a definite NEED to go shopping. Dreamt about shopping the last two nights straight. My DH is golfing this AM and works this PM so I have all kinds of time to do it in as well. There's just something so therapeutic about shopping for me. Probably a bad thing, but oh well. It's not like I go crazy spending all kinds of money...okay, now I sound like I'm justifying. Bottom line: I'm going shopping and I'm going to enjoy it. :)
I am also excited that I don't have to deal with some of our staff today. I swear "thinking for yourself" was not a job requirement...or they faked it for the interview. I can deal with it for a while but then there's days like yesterday where I just wanted to yell. We also have one of our full-timers out with an injured family member so I had to deal with silly teenage front help who didn't have a clue what he was doing. It makes more work honestly. If I have to keep half an ear at the till the entire time because you don't know what you're doing, just leave and let me run the till. Six years of college education will be put to good use...and you darn well know I can think for myself. Frustrating.
Had a minor power outage yesterday at work as well. Luckily, nothing blew up when it came back on. Thank goodness. That would have been the final straw. We're autogen'ing our orders now and it's working pretty slick. I'm a bit concerned for the weekend but hopefully everything will go accordingly.
Wish something funny/interesting would have happened at work yesterday but largely it was just waves of frustration and boredom. :( Yay for days off and shopping...Friday will be better and then I get to work the weekend....yay. (Okay, so that last yay was sarcasm)

Computer Issues

So at my lovely pharmacy we've been having more than our fair share of computer issues lately. Either phones don't work, the internet doesn't work, everything locks up, can't get E-Scripts, etc. The frequency of all of it has been just crazy...and to make matters even worse, it has happened on both days after a holiday so far this summer (day after Memorial Day and 4th of July). Now I know it's not anyone's "fault" but it still stinks. Apparently today's issue was that our router blew after last night's storm meaning that we couldn't connect to the internet and therefore couldn't send claims, bill credit cards, do anything meaningful. Had to go buy a new router and eventually everything came back up. My question is, why don't they teach more practical computer trouble shooting skills in pharmacy school??? I'd gladly give up some of my useless clinical knowledge for a simple "How to fix your printer in 5 steps or less class" . Call me crazy.
My DH is picking up dinner tonight...yay. It's very hard to get motivated to cook after a day of running around the pharmacy. Probably going to curl up with a book this evening and possibly enjoy a nice cold adult beverage. It's gotta be better tomorrow....
